Purple-crowned fairywren
Purple-crowned fairywrens exist only in a few locations in the far north of Australia. They prefer dense tropical bush around waterways and nest among the spiky leaves of the pandanus. The young of both sexes are in no hurry to fly the coop and usually stay with their nesting group for at least one year to help out with the subsequent broods.
The males have a lovely purple crown and both sexes have a pretty greenish-blue tail.
The top of the purse frame measures 11cm across. The height of the purse (not including balls) is approximately 13cm. The final image in the carousel shows the fabric used for the purse lining.
