Zebra finch

Zebra finches are seed eaters that live in arid and semi-arid habitats. Rainy periods send them into a breeding frenzy, in anticipation of the feast that is to come. They live and travel in large social flocks of up to one hundred birds.

While they can be found across much of Australia, they are commonly found in the desert. When I lived in remote central Australia, I loved sitting on my verandah with a cup of tea, watching a flock of these tiny birds flit from the tree in my yard to my neighbour’s and back again. And back again. And back again....

The frame on this clutch is 19.5cm wide. It measures approximately 20cm from the top of the frame (excluding closure) to the bottom of the bag. The base measures 9cm x 24.5cm. It has a 52cm leather strap, an internal patch pocket, and a coordinated inner lining, shown in the final image in the carousel.

Title:
Made in Australia

Handmade with love

Every fabric used in our bags and purses is designed by Boo at Susurrus Studio in Darwin River, located an hour south of Darwin in the hot tropics of Australia. Boo draws much of her inspiration from her bush environment, especially the birds and flora of the Top End and across Australia.

The fabrics are printed with care in Sydney. When they arrive, Boo steps away from the design table and leans into the sewing machine to hand craft each item.
