Bush chook/orange-footed scrub fowl
The orange-footed scrub fowl – or bush chook – is a comical looking, dumpy bird that makes a lot of really annoying noise at night. The male bush chook will also turn your lovely garden into a huge hot mound of dirt, in a bid to get a date. Needless to say, most gardeners hate them. Some people trying to sleep hate them too. Others love them for their bright orange legs and cartoonish shape and movements.
This design is part of the Controversial Birds series. These are the birds that some people love and others love to hate. They keep us awake at night, raid our bins, dig up our gardens, eat our fruit, attack us, or just… look at us funny (I’m looking at you, bush stone curlew).
