Heliconia rostrata
Heliconias love the tropics and flower most of the year round. Heliconia rostrata flowers grow up to half a metre long and hang rather than standing upright.
Heliconias are part of a large family of plants that includes bananas, ginger, canna lilies and birds of paradise. Most species are native to the tropical Americas, while others are indigenous to parts of Indonesia and some to certain islands of the western Pacific.
They are the oldest known plants to be pollinated by hummingbirds.

About our cushion covers
- This listing is for the cushion cover, not the whole cushion. They work best for 45-50cm cushion inserts, depending on how plump you like your cushions.
- Our cushion fabrics are designed by Boo at Susurrus Studio in Darwin River and printed in Australia. Boo uses a variety of techniques to design the fabrics including painting, drawing, lino prints and digital photography and drawing.
- Boo makes all the cushions in her studio and is registered with the Australian Made campaign.
- Cushions listed on this page are made from polyester upholstery fabric, making them super durable in most environments and very easy to wash.
- They come in a range of great designs with vibrant colours to match any decor.
- All cushions are double-sided. Some cushions have a variation of print (usually scale) on the other side - unless two different images are shown in the display above, both sides of the cushion will be identical.
- If something you want is out of stock, be sure to click the Notify Me button and we'll let you know as soon as we have them to hand again!
- Different sizes, fabric types and trims can be made to order. Our turnaround time is currently quite long however. Use the contact form to get in touch if you'd like more information.
Handmade with love
Every fabric used in our cushion covers is designed by Boo at Susurrus Studio in Darwin River, located an hour south of Darwin in the hot tropics of Australia. Boo draws much of her inspiration from her bush environment, especially the birds and flora of the Top End and across Australia.
The fabrics are printed with care in Sydney. When they arrive, Boo steps away from the design table and leans into the sewing machine to hand craft each item.
