Mangrove golden whistler
True to their name, the mangrove golden whistler is never found far from the mangroves, where they feed mostly in the canopy. They are no friends to spiders - not only do they love to eat them, they also use spiderwebs to bind their nests together.
As with many birds, the male is the flashy fellow and the female gets the raw end of the fashion deal, being mostly grey with some yellow on the lower belly and an olive green tail. The male can be distinguished from its cousin, the golden whistler, by its black tail.
On New Years Day 2026 I went exploring the mangroves with a friend and I wore my mangrove golden whistler skirt. My friend (who haunts the mangroves regularly) said she had only once caught a glimpse of one. The boardwalk was closed so we picked a careful path through the sand and were rewarded for our efforts by not just a sighting, but a good long look at a female golden whistler at quite close range, while the male teased us by singing but not appearing. I was happy nonetheless, to get a good long look at such a pretty little bird.

About our cushion covers
- This listing is for the cushion cover, not the whole cushion. They work best for 45-50cm cushion inserts, depending on how plump you like your cushions.
- Our cushion fabrics are designed by Boo at Susurrus Studio in Darwin River and printed in Australia. Boo uses a variety of techniques to design the fabrics including painting, drawing, lino prints and digital photography and drawing.
- Boo makes all the cushions in her studio and is registered with the Australian Made campaign.
- Cushions listed on this page are made from polyester upholstery fabric, making them super durable in most environments and very easy to wash.
- They come in a range of great designs with vibrant colours to match any decor.
- All cushions are double-sided. Some cushions have a variation of print (usually scale) on the other side - unless two different images are shown in the display above, both sides of the cushion will be identical.

Handmade with love
Every fabric used in our cushion covers is designed by Boo at Susurrus Studio in Darwin River, located an hour south of Darwin in the hot tropics of Australia. Boo draws much of her inspiration from her bush environment, especially the birds and flora of the Top End and across Australia.
The fabrics are printed with care in Sydney. When they arrive, Boo steps away from the design table and leans into the sewing machine to hand craft each item.
